THE KINALE ALAS-AS FRONT
During the Filipino-American War, the greatest American loss in any single combat which they fought was in the vicinity of Siniloan. The Americans, then, were stationed at the Siniloan churchyard. That fine morning, the Filipinos hurled a defy [?] against the Yankees. A straw figure geared in the likeness of a Filipino general was stationed on the summit of the Mabitac Hill, with a few guards to lure the enemy while the main body was skillfully deployed along the Kinale-Alas-as Mountains with all the necessary advantages of cover and terrain.
As there was a high tide along the approaches of the hills and mountains, the Yanks chose to wade straight to the hill of Calbario to subdue the defiant Pinoys. The brown men of Mabitac occasionally fired volleys, although they knew that their bullets would not touch the Americans. They only wanted to guile the enemy onwards. The Yanks charged for the enemy general. It took them, tall as they were to places where the water was as high as their chins. Whenever they stopped and seemed to doubt the wisdom of their attack, the Filipinos at Mabitac would give them concentrated salvos with their rifles. This made the Americans believe that there was a considerable force to beat at that hill. Then, they persisted in cutting their way through the water.
When the American main force reached "Mambog," the deployed Filipinos under Colonel Fidel Sario opened sporadic firing. The Americans were on the spot! A retreat was ordered, but it was too late. The Pinoys shot them like ducks. The Yanks dove for cover, but when they poked their heads

IMPORTANT FACTS, INCIDENTS, AND EVENTS THAT TOOK
PLACE DURING THE SPANISH OCCUPATION, AMERICAN
OCCUPATION TO WORLD WAR II, AND DURING
AND AFTER WORLD WAR II
A. SPANISH OCCUPATION
In the year 1633, under the reign of Captain Pablo Sapit, it rained ashes.
In 1652, there was a total eclipse and the chickens climbed the trees.
In 1666, a picture of a nude woman with two horns and four eyes, the other pair on the knees, riding on a winged-horse, appeared.
On April 22, 1740, the moon was divided into four parts and, five days after, balls of fire were seen in the sky. There ensued an epidemic of smallpox.
In 1754, it rained ashes due to the eruption of Taal Volcano. As far as this town, fire was seen flashing like lightning and sulphuric odor filled the air.
In 1767, typhoons frequented this place so often that, in one time, a child was drowned.
In 1768, a big conflagration razed the houses near the poblacion.
In 1863, a violent earthquake occurred that caused the deaths of a great number of people.
B. AMERICAN OCCUPATION TO WORLD WAR II
On May 9, 1896, balls of ice came pouring down from heaven which resembled napthaline balls.
In 1916, there was a heavy downpour of ashes again due to the eruption of Taal Volcano. [It is possible the author meant 1911, the year of the volcano's major eruption.]
In 1928, the market building was constructed and the

concrete gate of the cemetery was completed.
In 1941, the Philippine Army demolished the concrete bridge by means of dynamite.
In 1942, the schools were opened with Nipponggo as the sole language taught. In the latter part of this year, the Intermediate School Building was converted into a garrison where the anti-Japanese were tortured and killed.
On July 18, 1943, all the men were asked by the Japanese soldiers to assemble in the church, and there they were kept for twenty-four hours. They were tortured by groups of ten at the municipal building. 'Twas not until after Eliseo Castro, Jr. died of torture that all the men were released.
In May 1944, a neighborhood association was organized by the Japanese, and one of the rules they enforced was the duty of every man to guard around the town at night in different shifts.
On November 27, 1944, at 7:30 in the evening, an airplane machine-gunned the southern part of the town.
On March 22, 1945, at about 2:00 in the afternoon, American airplanes raided the town and dropped bombs on the southern part. Several houses were burned.
On March 28, 1945, American airplanes raided the town again, and the damage done was much greater than the previous one.
On April 4, 1945, American soldiers liberated this place. They made their camps at the market place. Later, they moved to Barrio Buhay.
On December 26, 1947, a very violent and destructive typhoon named Jean came and blew down several houses
