We are indebted to some persons who helped us gather the data needed. Mr. Marcelo Balbalosa gave us his Chronicle which he was able to save from the war. Mr. Dominador Castillo, the most promising local writer who brought us stories in local comic strips and papers, gave us some of his legends.

HISTORICAL DATA REGARDING THE TOWN OF SINILOAN, LAGUNA

HISTORY AND CULTURAL LIFE
Part One: -HISTORY-

19. The present official name of the town is SINILOAN.

20. In the year 1583, Fathers Oropesa and Placencia gave the name "GUILING-GUILING to this settlement. The name was derived from the native "GUILINGAN," a primitive device used in milling palay. Was adopted up to 1604.

In 1604, three leading inhabitants divided a lot they bought into equal parts. The priests, who were inclined to philosophy, asked the natives how equality was popularly expressed in the native tongue. The answer given was "SIN-LU-LUANG." There then and there, the pious fathers changed the name from "GUILING-GUILING" to "SINLULUANG." which connoted equality, fairness, and justice. And, like a prophetic pronouncement, the friars' words proved true to this day.

Later, the name SINLULUANG was shortened to SINILOAN, the present official name of the town.

21. The settlement was organized in the year 1583. However, the chronicles stated that prior to this year, the village which is now SINILOAN was a barrio with a population of more than nine hundred persons.

22. In 1583, the Parish of Siniloan was organized by Reverend Fathers Juan de Placencia and Diego de Oropesa. Written history does not reveal the real founders of this town.
